Battle of the Grapes:
The Judgement of Naples…Florida

Welcome to the final wine dinner of the summer season at Barbatella Naples. We have decided that the Judgement of Paris was a bit incomplete as it didn’t have any Italian wines present. So, we are going to challenge the winners from the 1976 “Judgement Of Paris” wine tasting with one of the most iconic wineries in all of Italy, Ornellaia.

The Undercard –

We will be challenging Chateau Montelena’s Napa Valley Chardonnay with Ornellaia’s Poggio alle Gazze, Ornellaia. We know its not a fair fight considering that Chateau Montelena’s offering is 100% Chardonnay grapes and Poggio alle Gazze is a white blend featuring Sauvignon Blanc, Vermentino, Viognier, and Verdicchio. But, Chef Jason Goddard and his culinary team are up to the challenge to pair food with two drastically different wines, and the ultimate winner will not be either one of the wines, it will be whomever takes advantage of this extraordinary opportunity to drink these wines side by side.

The Main Event –

This is what you all have been waiting for all summer long, even if you had no idea that you were waiting for it… Coming from Napa Valley, California is the “Champion” Stags Leap Winery’s Cabernet Sauvignon. It is primarily Cabernet, with a bit of Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot which makes for a succulent and delicious finish. How can you not want to taste this amazing wine when there are quotes like this, “this wine is sure to dazzle and pair well alongside many culinary treats.” Makes us salivate just thinking about it. The “Challenger” is one of the most iconic and recognizable labels in all of the world, Ornellaia. You will be tasting the 2016 Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia which has been awarded 93 points by Wine Spectator and 94 points by James Suckling. Le Serre Nuove is a truly epic wine that is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, so its big, bold, and drinks beautifully. Chef Jason and his team have been eagerly anticipating this unique matchup all summer long and cannot wait to deliver the experience of the summer season.
